Rouvali conducts Moldau
This colourful tone poem is a musical depiction of the long river Moldau (Vltava). The main theme is a real classic, sweeping the listener along the stream through vallies and forests in the Bohemian landscape. Smetana lived and worked in Gothenburg 1856-1862 and his music was often performed in the city. This tradition is kept alive with the Gothenburg Symphony who has played the piece regularly since 1905, when the orchestra was formed.
Santtu-Matias Rouvali takes up the position of Chief Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony from the 2017-2018 season. He is also Chief Conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestra in London. With an already very established career Rouvali regularly works with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra to name a few.
Recorded for GSOplay 4 May 2017
